Wyee sits in a corridor both levels of planning have singled out. The Hunter Regional Plan 2041 identifies Morisset, immediately to the north, as a regionally significant growth area, and Lake Macquarie City Council's Morisset Place Strategy states that Morisset and Wyee "represent the largest future growth area in the Central Coast and Hunter". The council separately reports that Morisset is tipped to become home to an extra 12,000-plus residents within 20 years. That last figure is a council forecast and is presented as one.

The suburb has its own railway station on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line, running through to Central via Strathfield or Gordon (Transport for NSW). Transport for NSW has completed an accessibility upgrade there, adding three lifts, a footbridge and commuter parking. Local amenity is being added alongside the housing. Trinity Point on the western shore of Lake Macquarie has been approved for a $665 million expansion taking in a five-star hotel, marina and residences — that figure is the developer's own and is repeated here as theirs, not verified independently. Schooling covers the full range without leaving the area: a government primary in Wyee itself, a government high school at Morisset, a Catholic primary and an independent Pre-K to 12 campus.
